FREE Mental Health First Aid Courses

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to assist adolescents who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
Mental health problems covered:
• Depression and anxiety
• Psychosis
• Substance use problems
Mental health crises covered:
• Suicidal thoughts and behaviour
• Panic attacks
• Traumatic events
• Severe psychotic states
• Severe effects from alcohol or
• other drug use
• Aggressive behaviours
By learning these skills you can make a difference in the lives of young people in your community.

This course is not a therapy or support group.
Who is providing the MHFA course?
Yarra Ranges Council is funding MHFA training for community members. This course is delivered by an accredited MHFA Master Instructor.

Format

The course is a combination of online and face to face delivery. Access to a computer/ tablet and internet is required.

Eligibility for participation

Participants must be Yarra Ranges community members and support, volunteer or work with young people. Eligibility will be checked via an Expression of Interest process before registration is confirmed.

Registrations close on Monday 18 April 2022.

Please note that this course is FREE for those who register and complete the course. If participants are accepted for the course but do not achieve accreditation, Council will be required to invoice the registered participant for the cost of the place – $155.

There are limited funds available to reimburse participants for data usage for those experiencing financial difficulty.
